In the afternoon, when we arrived at Guo Family ancient house nestled within the lanes of Dianzaiding Street, the usually tightly closed gates were unexpectedly wide open today – a truly fortunate coincidence. The weather was exceptionally pleasant, with sunlight filtering through the shadows of potted trees and casting a gentle glow on the wooden sign that read 'Zuoying Liantan Guo Family Century-Old Ancient House.' A light breeze delicately brushed against the familiar cobblestone walls of the old house, bringing a refreshing coolness. Ms.Xue noticed us taking photos at the entrance, and she kindly beckoned us inside, warmly welcoming us to explore the Guo Family Ancient House. Upon entering the gates, a gentle breeze carried with it the historical essence of the old residence, creating an atmosphere that felt like stepping into another dimension. In each breath, there was an added sense of joy and comfort. Ms.Xue added that they operate a bed-and-breakfast here, usually keeping the gates closed to ensure guest privacy. However, on this holiday with no guests around, she couldn't help but marvel at the seemingly destined timing, making this interview even more rare and special.

左營蓮潭郭家百年古厝

Ms.Xue is the manager of the Guo ancient house, born and raised in the Zuoying area. She has a deep connection to the prosperity and decline of this land. Standing in the courtyard in front of the house’s main hall, Ms.Xue gazes towards the distant sky, her eyes shimmering with profound emotions for the enduring history of this mansion. This interview captures a part of the stories of the military dependents' village in the Zuoying area, with Ms.Xue becoming a witness to this history.

"This land once quietly transformed into ruins due to the abandonment of the old house. The family had considered selling it, but this idea lingered without attracting any interest," reminisced Ms.Xue. "It wasn't until eight years ago when Mr.Guo Jinji, the current Chairman of the Ancient House Cultural Association and a descendant of the Guo family, had a touching dream," she continued. "In the dream, ancestors hovered above, unable to find their way home. Upon waking, he inquired about its meaning and learned that the elders were unwilling to sell this piece of land. This dream became a turning point in reevaluating the fate of the ancient house.

After discussions within the family, the Guo family decided to refurbish the house, and an unexpected stroke of luck ensued. Sister Xue explained, "At that time, the Guo family happened to have another piece of land on Xin Zhuangzai Road. Originally considered a difficult piece of land to deal with, a developer expressed interest in purchasing it for five to six million. This unexpected windfall became the source of funds for renovating the historic residence, and they saw it as an opportunity granted by their ancestors to address the issues with the old house."

"With the family's efforts, this land underwent a thorough renovation and transformed from ruins into a charming cultural haven," Ms. Xue's voice brimmed with admiration for the family's perseverance.

She continued describing the process of transitioning to a new business model, saying, "Later, we thought, since we're renovating, let's transform this ancient house into a cozy bed-and-breakfast! After careful planning and design, each room underwent renovations costing a million ."

Currently, the Guo Family ancient house has seven rooms, with six dedicated to accommodating guests. Each room has been meticulously renovated to showcase a rich historical style while providing modern comfort. The remaining room serves as a storage space for the necessary items and daily supplies of the bed-and-breakfast. These rooms are offered to visiting guests, allowing them to savor the deep-rooted history of the house while enjoying a delightful living experience.

古厝內院

Ms.Xue's gaze pierces through the historical mist, "This mansion was first built in 1909, predating the Liao Family Ancient House in the same lane. Judging from the door frame details and construction techniques, it seems to have been crafted by the same artisan." Originally a traditional structure with seven open rooms and two extended wings, the main hall was divided into upper and lower sections forming a courtyard in the layout of a Sanheyuan. However, due to changes in property rights and subsequent alterations to the building and land, the entrance had to be moved to the lane. The Guo family, primarily engaged in farming, would bring their harvest back to their courtyard. Simple agricultural tools are displayed beside the house, serving as visual aids for guided storytelling. Of particular note is the birdcage hanging from above, which Ms.Xue humorously mentions as the ancient version of a "guide chicken," a sight now rarely seen in modern times.

簡單的農具與「帶路雞」

She points to the wooden carvings on the roof, "These wood carvings were meticulously crafted by artisans, representing the superb skills of craftsmen from that era. It's evident that the economic condition at the time allowed for the use of high-quality materials, ensuring the durability of this mansion for over a century. "The raised ridge on the roof, shaped like an unveiled ancient Chinese sword, was originally intended to symbolize martial excellence. Though the patterns have faded over time, the rich historical significance endures, passed down through the bricks and tiles. In the courtyard, there are walls made of red bricks with the character "Wan" The roof is covered with willow-shaped tiles that serve as windbreakers. Like the dragon and phoenix depicted on the window lintel's scroll, their characters now worn and indecipherable, they narrate the rise and fall of a family's fortunes.

懸樑與木雕

As accessing other rooms used for the bed-and-breakfast was inconvenient, Ms.Xue specifically opened the main hall's door to invite us for a tour. Numerous antique items, such as old furniture, toys, and clothing, are displayed here. Normally used for the traditional Chinese baby celebration activity, it also serves as a valuable historical and cultural promotion space for schools and the public. During our conversation, I noticed a floor opening in the management room. Sister Xue chuckled, acknowledging my keen observation, and explained that it was an air-raid shelter built during World War II to protect their family during frequent air raids. Originally, there were three shelters in the courtyard, but during renovations, only the smallest one was preserved. Mr.Xue gestured for me to go down and explore. Lifting the heavy glass cover, I descended a few steps to see an area of roughly one to two square meters. The limited height didn't allow standing, but every corner exuded an abundance of untold historical stories, witnessing the tumultuous times of wartime.

防空洞

As Ms.Xue spoke, we navigated through the Xie Family Ancient House, experiencing the effort and perseverance required to preserve culture. "Preserving a historic residence is not a simple matter; it requires the collective effort of family members. While the owner entrusts property management for regular maintenance, renting out a room for two thousand a night makes it challenging to ensure the proper preservation and management of the historic residence. Promotion and events are still necessary," Ms.Xue's tone carried a sense of responsibility and mission towards the mansion.

I asked Ms.Xue, being from a prominent family in the Zuoying area herself, if she had any insights to share about her family's heritage. She responded, "Surnames in the old Zuoying area include Guo, Xie, Huang, Zeng, and others, including my own Xue family. In the past, people focused on securing their livelihoods. Unlike today, they didn't understand the importance of cultural preservation. Now, we can contribute more to promotion. I hope more people come in to experience the lifestyle of the past and imagine how challenging survival was back then. In the past, these houses were mostly earthen buildings. It was only when families had the means that they could afford brick houses with spacious courtyards. The whole family had to work together." Ms.Xue's tone carried a nostalgic sentiment, infusing the entire interview with profound reflections.

We concluded with a cheerful group photo. As I glanced back before leaving, the exterior walls of the ancient House in the lane, though appearing to be constructed with red bricks, revealed that not many buildings from that era were made of bricks. Most were earthen buildings, and a preserved section near the entrance testified to this fact. This interview provided me with a deep understanding of the architectural features and preservation efforts of this ancient mansion. Life, every day, is an accumulation of history, and our roots are nurtured by it. This journey through time allowed us to feel the weight of the land and appreciate the rich cultural heritage carried by the Xie Family ancient house.

by 易冠霈

“From raw peanuts to the creation of peanut sugar, not many places follow through the entire process like we do," Mr.Yu passionately explained. "From raw peanuts to peanut sugar, maintaining a consistent operation, I personally see it through. I have more confidence in the quality of our products due to this approach."

Mr. Yu enthusiastically shared with us the process of peanut processing, as well as the context and connection between peanuts and Zuoying old town. In the 1950s, the Zuoying area was predominantly farmland, with the main crop being water chestnuts. It was also a distribution center for peanuts. At that time, many businesses around Zuoying old town would purchase peanuts from the Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas and engage in peanut processing. With changes in industries and urban development, farmland turned into construction sites, leading to a reduction in the number of peanut processing businesses. Today, only a few remain in operation. Yongfeng Peanut Sugar is one of the businesses that illuminated its sign in that historical context. Established by Mr. Yu's grandfather in Yu's ancient house, the shop has been passed down through three generations, with Mr. Yu being the current successor.

"Why did Mr.Yu decide to take over?" I curiously asked.

"At that time, after completing my military service, seeing my parents working hard, I felt reluctant to let them bear the burden alone. So, I returned home to help share the physical labor and learned the art of peanut processing," Mr.Yu explained. Taking full control, he adapted to the changing food trends and developed a new product – peanut sugar.

When asked about Mr. Yu's impression of his grandfather processing peanuts in the ancestral home, he chuckled and replied, "I was too young, I don't remember." However, when the topic shifted to his experience living in the ancient house, Mr.Yu's eyes lit up, and he shared many childhood anecdotes. At that time, nearly ten people lived under the same roof, with a pigsty built of red bricks in front of the house, and even two deep wells! In the conservative era, even the use of water had to adhere to gender norms. The one on the left was called 'Dragon Well,' accessible only to biological males, and the one on the right was 'Tiger Well,' accessible only to biological females. During the Dragon Boat Festival, neighbors nearby would come to draw water from these two wells during 'noon,' and Mr. Yu chuckled, saying, "We were quite skilled at that when we were young, though it was tiring." Although the two wells have been dismantled for quite some time, he can still point out their locations based on memory. In an era before television became widespread, owning a TV was a coveted luxury.

After elementary school, neighbors would gather at Mr. Yu's house to watch programs together. He said, "The TVs back then still had sliding doors!" During festive occasions, due to the presence of a large stove at home, Grandma and Mother would cook various rice-based foods (mochi, Wa Gui), starting from milling the rice, with each step handmade. The playful children on the side looked forward most to the "khì-tsuí" (soda) after paying respects, and HeySong Soda was a highly valued commodity at that time. In these expressions, one can feel the glorious moments of the ancient house and a profound sense of happiness.

In recent years, Mr.Yu's father has been living alone in the ancestral home. However, after a fall and injury this year, the ancestral home remains unoccupied, though Mr.Yu still visits regularly to offer incense. Regarding the organization and maintenance of the ancestral home, He mentioned that the renovation and upkeep are both costly, and preserving it afterward requires considerable effort. In his words, one can sense his dedication and the challenges he faces in maintaining his family's house.

Towards the end of the interview, I asked Mr.Yu about his thoughts on the future of the ancestral home and the old town.

Mr.Yu sighed and said, "The government wants to preserve the ancestral homes and culture, but they also can't infringe on people's property rights. I hope the government can have comprehensive measures in place." This statement left a profound impression on me during the interview. In the past, I always felt that historical artifacts should be preserved as much as possible. However, hearing the perspective of the ancestral home's owner made me realize that, for them, it is not just a house or cultural asset; it signifies 'heritage.' It is the property passed down from ancestors to descendants. Through this interview, I gained a new perspective on cultural preservation. Preserving historical sites is a way to glimpse into the past, so documenting these stories is also a valuable aspect of cultural preservation !

Legend has it that 玄天上帝used to be a butcher. Since killing even animals is a bad thing in the Buddhist teaching, Kuan-ing the Goddess of mercy told him that the only way to wash himself clean was to cut open his tummy in the river. And so he did. But his stomach and intestines turned into a turtle and a snake. These two animals harmed and even killed villagers, men and women alike. Using his Sword of the Seven Stars, he caught them both under his foot saving everybody from disaster. This scene eventually became his signature image.

玄天上帝 is seen as the one having the ability to bring good fortune and extend lifespan. He himself is solemn, holding the Seven Star Sword. As a matter of fact, 玄天上帝’s original form was the combo of both the turtle and the snake, originated from the worship of Chinese constellation in the ancient time. Last but not least, as you can see on this picture, he doesn’t wear shoes, so he is also the so-called Barefoot Deity. Since Song Dynasty, he has been well worshiped. At present, people from both the slaughter industry and the meat-providing industry typically pray to him very much, for he is the patron God.

There are two people on the carvings. Is there anyone that knows who they are respectively? Well, those are good guesses, but the correct answer is 神荼,鬱壘. The one on your right hand side is called 神荼, whereas the one on your left hand side鬱壘.

Now I cannot wait to tell you the stories of these two. Basically, there were not any Door Gods at any city gates. But, the North Gate, in particular, was very unique. It is because this North Gate is the only one having Door Gods. That was because allegedly the governor of that time was murdered. Even though later it was confirmed a misinformation. However people of the time thought it was inauspicious, and therefore they thought it was more appropriate to incorporate this feature despite being rarely seen.

Both of them were the deities that examined evil ghosts in ancient China. These two were to be against them. It was even said that they both were quite ugly-looking and fierce-looking. As a result of this, they were responsible for taking good care of the gigantic peach tree and the ghost doorway that many came to and fro. If found any ghosts that harmed folks, then 神荼 and 鬱壘 would tie them with a straw rope and dump them into the mountain so as to be eaten by ferocious tigers. Legend even has it that it did pay off. Consequently, quite a few people back then had the portrait of these two at the door in order to expel the evil spirits or the ghosts. All in all, 神荼 and 鬱壘 are the Door Gods. Whenever you pay a visit to a temple, you will get to see these two portraits inside a temple for sure. It goes without saying that they are really commonly seen. So, you have all seen this one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Then we are more able to learn lessons from history itself. On the other hand, we can appreciate the merits and the virtues that ancient people had at their times.

As for the Zuoying Old Town, the first thing that comes to mind is the local dish: Fenyang Wonton. The wrapper is thin yet elastic, and inside, the pork filling is fresh and not greasy. The hand-wrapped method has over 60 years of delicious heritage. The persistence of the old store has achieved great success with this excellent flavor. After so many years in Zuoying, it has become a traditional and popular dish for many tourists and locals alike.

The history of the development of Shengli Street

The passage to the left of the ancient town wall in this image is Shengli Street in the Zuoying district of Kaohsiung City. Non-locals may not be familiar with the history of the origin of this street. In the past, before this road was developed, it integrated with the ancient city wall. In the late Japanese colonial period in Taiwan, this road was developed to facilitate transportation and save travel time. However, locals believe that the development of Shengli Street played a significant role in the decline of this area. Developing Shengli Street was seen as equivalent to severing the head of the sacred Guishan (Turtle Mountain). Now it has become the Great Guishan and the Little Guishan. Therefore, locals believe that this construction directly harms the neighborhood due to the issue of disrupting the "Feng Shui."

The ancient town wall

The materials used in the construction of the ancient city wall are primarily sourced from coral reefs. The stones are closely fitted together to form a solid and robust gate for the ancient town. This is because, in the past, the local terrain was composed of coral reefs. Hence, this natural and local material was utilized as the main building material. In front of the gate on this side of the ancient town lies the famous Lotus Pond. In the past, lotus flowers were planted around this large pond. Additionally, nowadays, one can observe many people engaging in various water activities in the Lotus Pond, such as thrilling water skiing.

Tzu Chi Temple in Zuoying

The final stop is the Tzu Chi Temple in Zuoying, located on the edge of the Lotus Pond and close to the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. The plaque in the center of the temple clearly indicates that it is primarily dedicated to Emperor Baosheng. There are many exquisite stone carvings on the four stone pillars in front of the main entrance. After so many years, the skill of the craftsmen is still astonishing. What strongly contrasts with the monochrome stone carvings is the Cochin ceramic craftsmanship at the top of the temple (as shown in the following photo). Cochin ceramics have their origins in Tang Sanchai. In Taiwan, they often appear on the tops of traditional and ancient buildings, such as temples. Furthermore, the Cochin ceramic in the following image is glazed, displaying brighter and more vivid colors.

Kaohsiung is the city that comes to mind whenever people talk about tourist attractions, and boasts an area so large that visitors cannot travel to all the spots in just three days and nights. It has lots of historic sites, culinary delights, and natural zones. It is also a friendly city where visitors can fit in easily. This time, let us visit the Zuoying District. Although it is near downtown and very modernized, visitors who step into the Zuoying Old City of Fengshan will feel that they are, traveling through time, where they are transported to memory-filled history in an instant, and provided the opportunities to discover the different looks of Zuoying.

The Zuoying Old City has four gates, which include the East Gate, South Gate, West Gate, North Gate, and inner gate space. Let’s begin by introducing the North Gate, close to the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, and one that is now listed as a national monument of the Republic of China.

The North Gate is also called Gongcheng Gate. It has the special meaning of "Power reigning is most valued with the northern star to direct the governance direction among people", which was excerpted from the "Power Reigning Theme" of the Analects of Confucius. Briefly speaking, this sentence signifies national politicians treating the people well and gaining their trust through virtuous governance, like the North Star settling in its place and other stars surrounding it in an orderly manner. Beicheng literally means the northern star and represents the star of the empire in ancient times, having a meaning of the support of people everywhere.

Outside the North Gate, you can see both sides embossed with gray Door Gods. Although there have been serious abrasions, when you come up next to the Door Gods, you can still see the exquisite patterns of their apparel. The Door Gods on the right side is Shengtu, and that on the left side is Yulei. The setting is related to the geography near the North Gate. In the past, the shops outside the North Gate where were cemeteries and execution grounds were. Since the north is considered an unlucky place in Feng Shui, Door Gods were specially carved on the outer walls in order to ward off evil spirits and prevent disasters.

The four gates can be connected into a travel route. Next time, feel free to take advantage of the beautiful sunshine and visit the four gates, feel the extraordinariness of ancient architecture, and bathe in a nostalgic atmosphere!

Most visitors harvest a ton of unforgettable memories and photos after walking around the Lotus Pond. Save for the temples and shrines, the most recurrent motifs are the quaint and classical Chinese pagodas, life-like dragons and tigers, and even Gulliver-sized buddhas and warriors.

Local residents know too well that the hidden treasures are inside the winding streets and alleys. After all, they all grew up surrounded by old mansions instead of the tourist attractions most out of towner come here for. The Old Town has a history of more than three hundred years of Chinese settlement. Early roads and streets were scarce, but as time went by, they started to grow like branches of a tree to cater to the needs of people. And maybe this is why walking around here is like trying to find your way out of a labyrinth. Without a local guide you'd probably get lost seven times out of ten.

Despite being a frequent visitor, I never knew that the Old Town held yet another card up its sleeves. Around two hundred years ago, while ordinary people could only “curl up” inside humble and flimsy huts that most certainly needed a repair after every typhoon season, these opulent mansions give us an idea of how the well to do enjoyed their lives in those days. Extravagance, uniqueness, opulence, ostentation, lavishness, and any other synonym would most likely fit to describe these relics of a bygone dynasty. These are like windows for us to take a glimpse into the past and see their values and philosophy of life. Each and everyone of the mansions has a story to tell, waiting for someone to come and listen. Unlike the scenic spots, these old mansions are “non-renewable resources” getting closer to extinction year by year. A decade from now, the Spring and Autumn Pavilions will still be there, but who knows how many of these old houses will.

After a crash course on old mansions, I came to realize where to look and how to make educated guesses when visiting. Building techniques and materials reveal a lot about the time in which they were constructed. Some of them date back to the Ching dynasty while others to the Japanese era, but all of them feature Chinese traditional architecture. Since there were no kilns to fire bricks and roof tiles, all of those would have to be imported from China. The same happened with timber since sawmills were unavailable. Even well into the Japanese era, timber was still imported since the best Taiwanese cypress and other trees were exclusively reserved for the Japanese market. The only locally procured materials were clay bricks, coral limestone, and lime. As for the people who built them, masters and craftsmen were also from China, and that’s why these houses display a traditional southern Chinese style.

The old mansion of the Liaos (located in Wu-jia, pic. 1) features Japanese painted tiles from Awaji, Shikoku (pic. 2~3). This is a clear indication of the era in which it was built. However, these tiles were used sparingly as a decoration due to their high cost. The Hsiehs’ mansion (located in Pei-tzai tou, pic. 1) features finely cut limestones arranged in the shape of ancient coin (pic. 2~3), obviously suggesting extravagance and wealth. It is calculated to be at least nearly two hundred years old, and there’s also photographic evidence from the 1870’s by a French engineer. The mansion of the Yu family (located in Yee-chia, pic. 7) features finely cut scale-shaped and hexagonal limestones as the lower wall of the façade (pic. 8~9), suggesting approximately two hundred years since they resemble the design of the North Gate (1825).

In some ways, each mansion can be interpreted as the social benchmark of the time when it comes to things like aesthetics, ingenuity, creativity, value, and even community ethos. General McArthur couldn’t be more right to say “old soldiers never die, they fade away.” These relics have a meaning only when they and their stories exist in the minds and memories of many. Why not pay them a visit before they’re gone for good?

Have you ever imagined what it is like to be sick without doctors or hospitals nearby? Many people in the past could only leave everything to chances and face their own destiny. Nonetheless, the ancient Chinese have their own ways to deal with this. Pao-sheng Emperor is said to be the merciful protector of faithful believers. And when it comes to medical skills, he has yet to meet any match. According to legend, no illness is uncurable, even the dead come back to life after his treatment. I think it’s fair to say that he is the eastern counterpart of Jesus Christ.

Originally named Wu-tao, Pao-sheng Emperor was born in the Sung dynasty, which is roughly a millennium ago. As a child, he was smart and adept showing capability in different subjects of learning. The story goes, at the age of 17, after a divine apparition, he was granted the magical power of treating illnesses as well as exorcism. And since he was always generous in addition to compassionate, people have always seen him as the avatar of the deities from heaven.

Crouching tiger and hidden dragon

One day walking down the mountain trails to gather herbal medicine, he met up with a panting and almost dead tiger. Being merciful even towards animals, he approached the beast offering his help. After checking, he found the problem in its throat and reached out with his arm to remove a hair pin from very deep inside. At once, the tiger was relieved from the agony of being chocked to death, and confessed that he had just devoured a lady on her way downhills. The doctor made the beast promise not to ever do that again and befriended this fearful but gallant patient from the wild.

The fame and reputation of this miraculous physician did not stop among human beings. Even the mystical dragon could not resist the idea of booking an appointment. Coming down with flu and serious eye infection, the dragon resorted to seeing him after showing up as an ordinary mortal in disguise. In almost no time, the magnificent doctor uncovered its deceiving appearance while offering his altruistic medical treatment. And very quickly, some eye drops helped the dragon regain its once heathy eyesight. As a gesture of gratitude, both the tiger and the dragon have remained at the disposal of Pao-sheng Emperor, eliminating not only wrongdoers but also sinister beings from the underworld. This is a genuine proof of the divine power that he once received from heaven to keep all mortals from the pain of health issues as well as the intimidation of evil spirits.

Since his skills and knowledge in medicine was unsurpassed, it’s not hard to imagine why people come to worship him. One thing that sets this temple apart from all others is the Chinese medicine prescription granted to those who pray for health. After incense burning, prayer, and moon blocks casting, the believer gets a divine consultation by drawing sticks similar to a fortune stick oracle, but a little smaller in size. Only that in this case, instead of an explanation of their luck, they receive an instruction of what kinds of Chinese medicine to take. This sounds like a medical appointment, after which the prescription may be taken to a Chinese medicine store to have it filled. For centuries, this practice became a social norm until the advent of modern medicine and health care.

In Ming dynasty, or roughly 500 years ago, the emperor granted him a title of honor, "Imperial Inspector at Heavenly Gate, Miracle Doctor of Compassion Relief, Great Taoist Immortal, and the Long-lived Unbounded, Life-guarding Emperor” (恩主昊天金關御史慈濟馨鑒妙道真君萬賽無極保生大帝). This being complicated and too long to remember, many followers have a hard time even pronouncing his entire

I would like to tell you a story about how 卓肇昌 became the Saint protector of the city. In his childhood, he was the one that was deeply influenced by his father to take the examination and became one cultivated talent in 1740. Later in 1750, he passed the exam and was therefore a first-degree scholar. What’ more, the government back then designated him as a county magistrate. Nevertheless, due to the fact that there were too many of them, he had no choice but to be an official at Ping-Shan Academy.

Since he was in position, he had came to and fro from his house to Ping-Shan Academy for countless times. Along the way, it’s inclusive of the Lotus Pond. Besides, he himself was gifted enough to compose several poems and verses. They all featured the landscapes, history, and the legends that took place in southern Taiwan.

How 卓肇昌 became the Saint protector of the city

It was even said that a vendor selling vegetables bumped into him on his way to Buhuo. 卓肇昌told him that he was then about to take office in Zihguan and asked him to notify his family of this. After that, he rode his horse away immediately. It was not until the vendor arrived at his house in Buhuo that he knew卓肇昌had already passed away the night before. He was only 54 years old then. In the meantime, there was also a tough case in regard to the land in Zihguan, and it couldn’t be resolved by the county magistrate. Therefore, it was later examined and scrutinized by the Saint protector of the city. For the Saint protector of the city excelled in this, the case itself was finally resolved at ease. After 卓肇昌 kicked the bucket, the deities’ faces in Zihguan Saint protector of the city Temple happened to be deified as well. Hence, the residents in Buhuo all reckoned that the Saint protector of the city was actually卓肇昌’s transformation.
