<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796q2fs5 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages' University Social Responsibility Practice Program, "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project&rdquo;has initiated various collaborative communities this semester. The "Cultural Experience Design Community" has planned two themed activities for this session. Join us for this event on "Shinyō Wagashi" exploring the story of the Shinyō Special Attack Unit, an integral part of old Zuoying with a mysterious and sorrowful history. Beyond listening to historical narratives, participants will engage in a hands-on experience of making Japanese wagashi, enhancing their understanding of this historical period and deepening their familiarity with Zuoying's culture and development.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796ro60v fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796qqo4c fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>For this event, we are honored to invite teacher Jiang Zhouhang to Wenzao. Mr. Jiang is not only a pastry chef but also a long-time local food education promoter and literary pastry writer. He weaves together pastries and literature, transforming them into more charming and unique literary works. He hopes to combine his expertise with local characteristics, allowing participants to not only recognize the natural ingredients nurtured by the land but also deeply feel the cultural cultivation of the land and people. Mr. Jiang shared many of his personal experiences with us, such as using the "Five Elements" in his hometown of Liougue, through pottery, woodworking, dyeing, cooking, and other means, to make full use of local elements, allowing children and adults to learn while doing and recognize the beauty of this land. For this event, Mr.Jiang also collaborated with Kaohsiung Cultural Association to come up with the highlight of the event - "Shinyō Wagashi ," using red bean paste and longan as fillings to create a pastry with a strong Japanese dessert flavor, allowing participants to feel novelty and surprise during the experience.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf2usp fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf30qk fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>While waiting for the pastries to bake, Mr. Chen, the manager of Kaohsiung Cultural Association, shared the story of the Shinyo Special Attack Unit. "Shinyo" originated in Japan during World War II, when a suicide attack unit was developed to resist the U.S. military. The connection between the Shinyo Special Attack Unit, Taiwan, and Zuoying is a base found near the ruins of Zuoying West Gate. After investigation and verification by historians, it was discovered that during the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan, a unit called the Shinyo Special Attack Unit was stationed in Zuoying West Gate for a period of time. However, after the war ended, the unit withdrew back to Japan. This news surprised the local residents of Zuoying, who exclaimed, "So there was such a history!" The aforementioned base was built by the unit members as a shrine to comfort their hearts, long for home, and pray in the midst of fear. After listening to the entire story, the participants felt a sense of heaviness, but at the same time, they gained a deeper understanding of Zuoying.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3knb fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3mpo fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>The second session, "Design and Ideation," invited participants to extend their creativity based on the first session's content. Both groups enthusiastically shared their creative concepts and sources of inspiration. The first group titled their project "Zuoying: Past and Present, Reflections of Shinyō ," using a layering technique to juxtapose images of Zuoying a century ago with its present-day appearance on a folder. This visual comparison clearly contrasts the past and the present. Additionally, the first group created several illustrated cards related to the Shinyo Special Attack Unit's story, which can be further developed into stamps or stickers. The second group, inspired by the story of the Attack Unit stationed in Taiwan, designed handwritten thank-you cards. The goal was to encourage participants to empathize with the feelings of the members in the army or their families at that time, understanding the indescribable sorrow and longing. Through role-playing, participants conveyed their emotions through these cards, allowing them to deeply experience this historical period and grasp the meaning of "expressing love in time."</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-7l1ar6ki fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-7l1ar958 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>The first session, which included an experience and a listening session about the history and culture, and the second session, where group members brainstormed ideas, both helped participants gain a deeper understanding of the old Zuoying culture. Through such activities, we hope that more people will be willing to learn about their hometown and invest their efforts in promoting it. The 113 cultural experience design activities have now come to an end. Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages&rsquo; Social Responsibility Project team will continue to organize activities in the future, and we look forward to meeting you all with more diverse, innovative, and locally-themed events!</p>

<p></div><div class="ffb-id-773kkt75 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796q2fs5 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages' University Social Responsibility Practice Program, "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project&rdquo;has initiated various collaborative communities this semester. The "Cultural Experience Design Community" has planned two themed activities for this session. With the theme "Stories of the Old Town Gate," this event provides participants with a hands-on experience to explore the historical tales of the Old Town gates. Through collaborative brainstorming, participants will generate creative handmade projects inspired by the "Old Town gate" concept. This event not only imparts historical knowledge but also fosters creativity and engagement.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796ro60v fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796qqo4c fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; In our first session, we collaborated with Kaohsiung Cultural Association and invited Manager Chen Zhenrong to deliver a presentation at Wenzao. To kick off the event, Manager Chen made a humorous entrance as a "Qing Dynasty officials," instantly capturing the audience's attention. Through his engaging lecture, participants were transported back in time to the old city a century ago, gaining a deeper understanding of its culture and historical context. Manager Chen provided a detailed introduction to the four main gates of Zuoying: the North Gate, South Gate, West Gate, and East Gate. While the West Gate no longer exists today, remnants of its structure remain for research and visitation. Additionally, Manager Chen explained the historical context of the Town&rsquo;s construction. For example, due to the Zhu Yigui Rebellion in 1722, residents of old Zuoying built the first earthen wall to defend against invaders and protect their homeland. However, as the earthen wall was repeatedly breached and became unusable, the government and local residents raised funds to rebuild the wall with stone, resulting in the structure we see today.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf2usp fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf30qk fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Having been enthralled by the stories of the Old Town gates, participants engaged in a hands-on craft activity. They created miniature replicas of the North Gate by assembling different components. The finished product, a pen holder adorned with the inscription "Gongchenmen,"(means Stars around the North Star) served as a tangible representation of the original gate. This activity provided participants with a unique opportunity to appreciate the historical and practical significance of the North Gate while having fun. By engaging in this hands-on experience, participants deepened their understanding of Zuoying's local culture and the stories associated with the Old Town gates.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3knb fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3mpo fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>&nbsp; The second session focused on "Design and Ideation," where participants expanded on the Old Town gate concepts from the previous activity. Working in groups, they presented their projects: "Old Town gate picture frames" and "Lintel Stones". The picture frames were created using wooden boards cut into the shape of the Old Town gates, and participants added their own unique embellishments. They also shared their inspirations and personal connections to the North Gate, infusing their designs with personal stories. The "Lintel Stones" displayed various inscriptions found on the Old Town gates, such as "Fengyi Gate."(the East gate) Inspired by a group member's experience with lintel stone rubbings, the group provided insights into the four gates, deepening participants' knowledge.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-7l1ar6ki fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-7l1ar958 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Through thematic activities, hands-on experiences, and group design projects, this program aims to spark participants' interest in the history of Zuoying old town gates. By encouraging active engagement and creativity, we hope to foster a deeper appreciation for local history and culture. Ultimately, we strive to revitalize the development of old Zuoying through these efforts. In this semester's "Cultural Experience Design" event, we will continue to collaborate with local community organizations and professional historians to develop a diverse range of engaging activities.</p>

<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796q2fs5 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages' University Social Responsibility Practice Program, "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project&rdquo;has initiated various collaborative communities this semester. The "Cultural Experience Design Community" has planned two themed activities for this session. Participants engaged in making Fenyang wontons, a delicacy of the Zuoying Old Town, and listened to fascinating stories related to them, such as those about Xuantian Shangdi(The deity of the big Dipper). Through these activities, they will develop a profound understanding of the history of Old Zuoying and explore local folk beliefs in depth.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796ro60v fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796qqo4c fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Firstly, Manager. Chen Zhenrong, Manager of Kaohsiung Cultural Association, was invited to introduce the historical development of Fenyang wonton and explained the relationship between wonton and Xuantian Shangdi. In the history section, it was mentioned that there are many legends and versions about the identity of Xuantian Shangdi before he became an immortal. One of the most popular ones is that in the book "běi y&oacute;u j&igrave;" (Journey to the North), it is written that Xuantian Shangdi was originally a butcher who took out his own stomach and intestines in order to save his mother and remove his own karmic obstacles, and was then touched by the heavens and ascended to become a god of immortality. Mr. Chen's lively and entertaining "interpretation" of the story kept the participants engaged and interested in not only Zuoying, but also Taiwanese folk beliefs as a whole.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf2usp fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf30qk fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Next, the hands-on experience was led by Ms.Wang, who guided everyone in making wontons. With exquisite skill, she wrapped the pork filling in dough, and the participants eagerly followed her instructions to create their own wontons, thoroughly enjoying the process. Once cooked, everyone eagerly tasted the wontons. The aromatic smell and the melt-in-your-mouth texture impressed the participants, who expressed that the wontons they made themselves were particularly delicious and meaningful. Many participants felt that the dual experience of "cultural and historical learning" and "hands-on crafting" not only enhanced their understanding of the local cultural features but also deepened their emotional connection to the area.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3knb fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3mpo fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>&nbsp; In the second session of the "Design and Ideation" activity, participants explored various aspects using elements of folk beliefs. This session was divided into three groups: one focused on the "Rubbing Experience" related to the Tzu Chi Temple and Baosheng Dadi, another on "Traditional Chinese Medicine Specialty Products," and a third on tasting "Mochi, a favorite of the Earth God." Ms. Liu Yiling from Zhengxin Tang was also invited to explain the "Importance of Traditional Chinese Medicine" and "Local Development and Current Situation of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Old Zuoying," enriching participants with abundant knowledge. Through this activity, participants not only enhanced their cultural understanding through mutual exchange and sharing within each group but also developed a deeper appreciation for their local heritage, gradually becoming more familiar with and fond of their homeland.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-7l1ar6ki fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-7l1ar958 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>The first half of the 113th academic year's "Cultural Experience Design Community Activities" has successfully concluded. The activities featuring "Cultural and Historical Stories" and "Hands-on Experiences" continue to be highly popular among participants. Additionally, the newly introduced "Design and Ideation" activities have also achieved excellent outcomes. Looking ahead, we look forward to welcoming more partners from diverse backgrounds to actively participate in future events. Together, we aim to contribute to the development of Old Zuoying, continuing the legacy and cultural enrichment of this valuable heritage.</p>

<p></div><div class="ffb-id-773kkt75 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796q2fs5 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages' University Social Responsibility Practice Program, "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project&rdquo;has initiated various collaborative communities this semester. The "Cultural Experience Design Community" has planned two themed activities for this session. Participants will engage in hands-on experiences such as tilings of geometric patterns to learn about the distinctive features and culture of the ancient houses in Zuoying Old Town. Additionally, participants will be invited to brainstorm and collectively design content. The results of their work will be presented at the second event.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796ro60v fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796qqo4c fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>First, we invite a handicraft experience instructor to visit Wenzao and lead everyone in creating. While creating tilings of geometric patterns, they will also introduce the value of "tilings of geometric patterns" in ancient houses, symbolizing the status of the owner. Each brick and tile carries historical memories and intrinsic value. Originally produced in England, flower bricks were introduced to Japan through trade relations and eventually arrived in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. Architects at the time adapted the patterns according to Taiwanese customs and embedded them in the walls of ancient houses. Therefore, by carefully observing the elements of ancient houses, one can understand the architectural background of &ldquo;the ancestral homes&rdquo;.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf2usp fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf30qk fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>After the hands-on experience and detailed introduction to ancient houses in the pre-class session, students showcased their creativity in the project presentations. There were four groups in total, each focusing on different aspects: "Doorframe Cookies" placed on the front door, "Plum Blossom Coasters," childhood toys like "Paper Airplanes" commonly seen in front of ancient houses, and "Divine Beast Lions'' connecting the temples in Zuoying Old Town. "Doorframe Cookies" and "Plum Blossom Coasters" centered their activities around selecting door frames as the main theme, integrating designs from the unique doorframes of Zuoying Old Town's ancient houses such as "Mei Kui," "Ji Shan Jia," and "Hong Xi" for stamping activities.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3knb fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3mpo fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Among them, the students working on "Doorframe Cookies" selected rectangular wooden-colored cookies as the base for door frames. They used red food coloring as stamp ink, making the design simple to operate. The finished product resembled small door frames, providing participants with both an edible and playful experience. Meanwhile, for the "Divine Beast Lions" in front of temples in Zuoying Old Town, students used lightweight clay for DIY crafts to introduce the cultural significance of stone lions. For instance, male lions typically hold embroidered balls under their feet, while female lions have a small cub beneath theirs. Through the process of molding clay, participants gained a deeper understanding of stone lions. During the sharing sessions within the community, members expressed their newfound understanding and perspectives on Zuoying Old Town. They discovered the richness and fascination of cultural knowledge hidden behind each ancient house.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-7l1ar6ki fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-7l1ar958 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>This "Cultural Experience Design Community" has concluded successfully, and will soon usher in the second themed activity "Wonton Making Experience". The team will incorporate the legends of "Xuantian God and other folk beliefs" to help everyone understand the cultural value behind it is expected to be launched on May 22 at Wenzao. We sincerely look forward to the active participation and support of more community people and school teachers and students, and jointly contribute to the development of the old Zuoying community and continue to pass on the culture.</p>

<p></div><div class="ffb-id-773kkt75 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796q2fs5 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages' University Social Responsibility Practice Program, "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project" has opened various co-creation communities this semester.&nbsp; This community event collaborated with Professor Li Yijing from the Spanish Department. We specially invited Mr. Wang Huangqiwei, from Exploring Takao, to guide the students and teachers of Wenzao University through a local walking tour. The main destination was the Old Yancheng District, with a focus on exploring the historical development during the Japanese colonial period. Throughout this journey, we also had the opportunity to discover many unique shops and delicious local snacks in Yancheng. In addition to listening to local historical stories, indulging in the culinary delights added a diverse and enriching atmosphere to the entire event.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796ro60v fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796qqo4c fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;"Yancheng," as the name suggests, was once a salt field. However, during the Japanese colonial period, the salt fields were filled in, transforming the area into a new coastal land. Due to its proximity to the seaport, the economy flourished, making Yancheng a bustling urban center. During the event, Mr. Huang led us through various streets and alleys, where we observed many distinctive features typical of Japanese architecture, such as curved corner buildings or guardhouses to prevent robbery. Additionally, Wenzao students and teachers visited the main commercial district at the time, the International Mall (formerly known as Takao Ginza). In the 1940s and 1950s, this area was very prosperous, selling many imported goods and symbolizing the economic prosperity of Yancheng. The Yamagata wooden structure of the "First Public Market of Yancheng" and the ubiquitous terrazzo were also characteristic features of the Japanese colonial period architecture. After government environmental refurbishment, local youth were invited to settle in, breathing new life into this over seventy-year-old building.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf2usp fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf30qk fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>&nbsp; Finally, everyone arrived at Yamatsuya to experience the making of D&agrave; Y&uacute; Q&iacute; (There&rsquo;re pictures of fish and sea on the flag) postcards. The cultural team was established in 2016, consisting of Taiwan's new generation of artists, designers, and writers, dedicated to community development and social practice. They pay special attention to the revival of Kaohsiung's traditional fishing culture, particularly the D&agrave; Y&uacute; Q&iacute; culture. This experience allowed us to handcraft the silk-printed patterns on the postcards. Students and teachers eagerly and joyfully engaged in the activity, gaining a deep understanding of the cultural value and importance of heritage preservation associated with this craft.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3knb fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3mpo fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>&nbsp; The "Cultural Experience Design Community Event" successfully concluded, and in the future, we will continue to organize a variety of activities combining cultural history, handicrafts, and site visits. We hope these activities will provide participants with unforgettable experiences and inspire more people to invest in caring for local communities, collectively creating a sustainable future.</p>

<p></div><div class="ffb-id-773kkt75 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796q2fs5 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages' University Social Responsibility Practice Program, "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project&rdquo;has initiated various collaborative communities this semester. Among them, the "Cultural Experience Design Community" had the privilege of collaborating with Kaohsiung Cultural Association. They invited &nbsp;Manager Chen Zhenrong to share his experiences and insights on various types of gate gods and their respective relationships with temples, thus acquainting everyone with traditional door god culture. Through the handicraft activity of making the Gate God Mung Bean Cake, participants were led to gain a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the concept and symbolic significance of "gate gods" through direct experience.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796ro60v fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796qqo4c fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>&nbsp; The series of activities for this academic year has come to a close, with the final session led by Manager Chen Zhenrong, who shared lively and historically rich stories about the old town gate gods. Manager Chen explained the origin of the gate god sculptures above the North Gate of the old town in Zuoying. It stemmed from the &ldquo;Lin Shuangwen event&rdquo; during the Qing Dynasty. At that time, people were deeply afraid of the unrest, so they decided to move the town from Xinglong Village (now Zuoying) to Xiapitou (now Fengshan). However, later they received an imperial edict asking residents to move back to Xinglong Village. Many people were unwilling, so they fabricated rumors that a magistrate died after the completion of the new town, creating the notion that Zuoying's old town was an unfavorable location for Feng Shui, providing an excuse to continue living in Fengshan. Subsequently, to reassure people about returning to the old town, officials decided to carve gate god sculptures on the North Gate, symbolizing their function of "guarding," "suppressing evil," and "warding off demons." This is the locally circulated story of gate gods in Zuoying. Through this story, Manager Chen helped many participating students understand that behind the seemingly ordinary gate god sculptures lies a connection to real historical events that occurred in the area.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf2usp fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf30qk fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>&nbsp;Continuing on, Manager Chen proceeded to introduce the different categories of gate gods, along with the reasons and characteristics behind each. For instance, natural phenomena can also be anthropomorphized into deities. For example, the Wind God may carry a banana leaf fan to create wind, while the Rain God may hold a willow branch in one hand and a bowl in the other; when the willow branch touches the water in the bowl, it can sprinkle water, symbolizing rain. Additionally, when we see Guan Gong alongside another figure, typically a cultured white-faced character, we can infer that it is a Buddhist temple, as Guan Gong is said to have saved this white-faced monk in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Later, Guan Gong attained enlightenment after certain events and decided to "lay down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha on the spot," thus earning the title of "Garland Bodhisattva" by later generations. When observing Thousand-Mile Eyes and Favorable Wind Ears, one can determine that it is a temple dedicated to Mazu, while the QiYe and BaYe (Guarding Deities) are associated with Town God temples. From the descriptions and identifications above, one can understand the unique details and background stories of gate gods, thereby gaining insights into the nature of temples and even extending to the broader local historical context and cultural manifestations.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3knb fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3mpo fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In terms of hands-on activities, this session involved making gate god cakes using mung bean cake as the main ingredient. Using molds imprinted with patterns of "gate gods" and "town gates," participants rolled the mung bean cake mixture into balls and placed them into the molds. After demolding, clear and adorable patterns could be seen! Such simple and delicious cake-making activities were found to be both enjoyable and meaningful by the participants. They particularly appreciated the opportunity to listen to rich cultural and historical stories while engaging in hands-on experiences. This combination helped them feel closer to their own traditional culture rather than feeling distant and unfamiliar. It is hoped that through this experience, the participants will develop a greater interest in local culture and contribute to its promotion and preservation.</p>

<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796q2fs5 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages' University Social Responsibility Practice Program, "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project" has opened various co-creation communities this semester. Among them, the "Cultural Experience Design Community" team is fortunate to collaborate with the Kaohsiung Cultural Association, inviting teacher Zhang Biyu to Wenzao to demonstrate the production of silk printing and share related cultural and historical knowledge, allowing students to gain pleasure and a sense of accomplishment in a short period of time through hands-on experiences. The goal is for students to absorb abundant local culture and historical nutrients through listening to stories.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796ro60v fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796qqo4c fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>The cultural experience-related activities have now reached the third session. The current experience project is "Old City Tide Bags and Silk Printing." Unlike previous sessions, this time, participating students were first allowed to experience silk printing before listening to the cultural and historical story of the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda. In the experiential part, teacher Biyu first shared the origin, production method, and required materials of silk printing with the students. Through lively and interesting videos, she sparked the curiosity of the students. Teacher Biyu also explained that "silk screen printing is a kind of printing that has a very hand-made and warm feeling.&rdquo; Simply put, it involves using a photosensitive plate to block the mesh outside the print on a silk frame. Then, ink is slowly scraped through the mesh with a scraper, and the pattern gradually appears. This craft has a wide range of applications, not only on fabrics but also on signs, tea sets, and even electrical appliances. Today, it is combined with modern plate-making technology, making it richer and more diversified.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf2usp fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf30qk fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>The origin of the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda can be traced back to the Japanese colonial period when the Japanese forcibly opened the Shengli Road, separating the head and body of Guishan. The Yongqing Tower was built on the head of a small turtle, like a needle inserted straight above. Both seriously damaged the local Feng Shui. Therefore, in 1974, following the instructions of the main deity enshrined by Ciji Temple, the Great Emperor Bao Sheng, the temple began to build the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda to prevent future disasters. Teacher Biyu also explained from the perspective of folklore that the "Dragon" and "Tiger" are both closely related to Bao Sheng Da Di. According to legend, both "dragon" and "tiger" have a connection with Emperor Baosheng, because Emperor Baosheng healed the dragon's eyes and the tiger's throat. In order to repay the favor, the dragon and tiger promised to abide by the conditions and always accompany Emperor Baosheng. Teacher Zhang particularly emphasized that the opposite side of every waterside building is usually a temple. Buildings and temples have a deep and close relationship with each other, and they do not exist arbitrarily and without reason. Through the storytelling session, the students not only understood the reasons behind the construction of iconic buildings like the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda but also gained insight into many unknown folk stories about the Old Town, which are worth savoring.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3knb fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3mpo fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>The cultural experience activities of this project not only allow participants to "understand and interact" but also aim to let each participant experience the "cultural integration, transformation, and innovative variability" and the "original existence value and continuous inheritance." The third event of the "Cultural Experience Design Community" has officially concluded, and the last highlight of this year's plan will take place on December 18. It may bring different but even more enriching content! In the future, the "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project&rdquo; also looks forward to exchanging and collaborating with students, clubs, professional lecturers, and community units from various places, jointly planning and designing a more diverse range of cultural and historical experience activities to expand the scope of social responsibility practice.</p>

<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796q2fs5 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages' University Social Responsibility Practice Program, "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project" has opened various co-creation communities this semester. Among them, the "Cultural Experience Design Community" team is fortunate to collaborate with the Kaohsiung Cultural Association, inviting Manager Chen Zhenrong to co-organize this event. &nbsp; The cultural experience this time is the second event, and the activity is "Sugar Painting." Manager Chen from Kaohsiung Cultural Association will continue to share with everyone the reasons behind the handmade craft and its fascinating stories.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796ro60v fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796qqo4c fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>In the section on literature and history, the overview and key events of Taiwan's century-long "History of Sugar Industry Development" are presented, along with anecdotes related to Zuoying Old Town . Manager Chen explains that as early as the Dutch colonial period, Taiwan was engaged in sugar production and trade activities. However, during that time, the colonizers described the Han people living in Formosa as the "finest silkworms" and "honey-making bees," indicating through various descriptions that the island's residents under colonization suffered from numerous unjust and oppressive treatments. Moving into the Japanese colonial period, Taiwan was regarded as an "important production base" and a "trade transit hub," with sugar remaining an indispensable export commodity.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf2usp fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf30qk fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>In addition, Manager Chen introduce Zhuo Zhaochang from Fengshan County during the Qing Dynasty. He was the first person in Zuoying to be the Juren. ( One of the level of imperial Examination ) During his childhood, there is an interesting folk legend describing how he tied the Tudi Gong（Lord of the land）to a tree to assist in taking care of cattle. However, one day, he forgot to "rescue" Tudi Gong, leaving the deity lonely, blowing cold winds while waiting. Although this story has not been confirmed, the amusing legend has left a deep impression on the participants about Zhuo Zhaochang, a local literati. It has also sparked the participants' interest in the relevant history of the Zuoying Old Town, encouraging them to share and listen to anecdotes about the old city in the future.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3knb fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79hf3mpo fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>In the hands-on experience segment, the team invited Uncle Xie Yongqing, a teacher skilled in sugar painting, to visit Wenzao and demonstrate the techniques of sugar painting to everyone. He shared clear and detailed insights with the participants, covering aspects such as the selection of sugar types, cooking times, and how to depict various shapes. With his many years of experience, Teacher Xie patiently guided each participant, actively engaging in interactions and Q&amp;A sessions during the process. He also shared a variety of sugar painting styles and showcased his unique creations.Sugar painting is not just a childhood memory and flavor for many people. Through this event, participants can also understand the importance of preserving and promoting traditional crafts in the face of their potential loss.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79jal4sv fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-79jal29m fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>The second event of the Cultural Experience Design Community has successfully concluded, and preparations for the next two events are currently underway. We look forward to bringing even more enriching content to everyone! In the future, the "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project&rdquo; also anticipates engaging in exchanges and collaborations with students on campus, clubs, professional instructors, and community organizations. Together, we aim to plan and design a diverse range of cultural and historical experiential activities, expanding the scope of social responsibility practices.</p>

<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796q2fs5 fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages' University Social Responsibility Practice Program, "OUR TOWN Community Sustainable Cross-Domain Collaborative Platform Project" has opened various co-creation communities this semester. Among them, the "Cultural Experience Design Community" team is fortunate to collaborate with the Kaohsiung Cultural Association, inviting Manager Chen Zhenrong to co-organize this event.</p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796ro60v fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1 fg-text-dark"></p>
<p></div><div class="ffb-id-796qqo4c fg-paragraph ff-richtext text-left content-p-style1-en fg-text-dark"></p>
<p>The event will be held in four sessions on October 30, November 13, November 27, and December 18. Each hands-on experience activity incorporates elements from four dimensions of "History," "Humanities," "Attractions," and "Industrial Development" in the local area of Zuoying. The goal is for participating students to gain a deeper understanding of the history of the Zuoying Old Town through experiential learning. The featured activity for this event is the "Aroma Stone Amulet," with Manager Chen providing the origin story behind the handmade work -&nbsp; "Zenyang and Shrine Sites." Manager Chen informed the students that the name "Zenyang" originated from the suicide attacks carried out by Japan in the late stages of World War II. Deploying special attack units, known as the Zenyang Squadron, to counter US warships, led to the establishment of a shrine in Zuoying, Taiwan. The site was discovered in September 2013. The amulet, in Japanese shrines, is a small item used for prayer. The teacher carefully explained the materials, steps, preparatory knowledge, and usage of making aroma stones, enabling students to easily operate and get hands-on experience. There was a lot of interactions between teachers and students during the process. Some students shared that seeing the "Old Town gate" pattern on the aroma stone after demolding was quite delicate and very story-telling, believing that the value and significance of the finished product go beyond the sense of accomplishment. Other students also expressed that their overall sense of participation was elevated, finding the combination of storytelling and hands-on activities educational and enjoyable. Many eagerly expressed their desire to participate in similar activities in the future.</p>
